In 2001, while studying for a doctoral degree in the field of gene expression, Pierre-Yves Perche experienced that his research was slowing down because of the difficulty in procuring quality stable cell lines and primary cells, that are reliable and safe. Pierre-Yves and his brother Guillaume (who was ending his business school) decided to set up a cell biology company dedicated to high performance mammalian cells for R&D. With the help of their laboratory, which was a part of the French Institute of Health and Medical Research and the local business incubator (GR-A-IN), they won the French National Award for Innovative Business, organized by the French Ministry of Research.
Next, they convinced few investors and in 2003 CreaCell was born. The team started the activity with contract research services and also the development of the popular CreaCellhERG HEK293 cell line for safety pharmacology. Over time, Pharmaceutical, Nutraceutical and Biotechnology companies came in order to find cellular tools and cell culture services to discover and develop new active compounds for animal and human health.
